About The Project
Green Flag for Development is a major Development Awareness Fund project funded
by the Department for International Development (DfID) and Global Education Derby.
The project has worked with a team of teachers, partners and experts over the past
three years to find ways to bring the global dimension to the Eco-Schools Programme
and the Sustainable Schools Framework.
The global dimension incorporates the key concepts of global citizenship, conflict
resolution, diversity, human rights, interdependence, social justice, sustainable
development and values and perceptions. After much debate, we approached this task
by bringing a global dimension to the key areas, or doorways, rather than as an
add-on or extra area of work. We also aim to provide a model to schools of how the
global dimension can be addressed through established ESD (Education for Sustainable
Development) programmes such as the Eco-Schools Programme or the Sustainable Schools
Framework.
The results of the project are offered here as a free-to-download set of resources
for busy teachers, with the emphasis on being written by teachers, for teachers.
