OTHER RESOURCES AND USEFUL LINKS
There are a vast array of teaching resources out there for tackling issues on energy
use, food miles, climate change and energy efficiency, many with a global dimension,
in terms of global climate change or specific projects in other countries. We found
the resources and websites below useful:
Shout About Climate Change
A 'Friends of the Earth' pack for Key Stage 3 can be downloaded for free or ordered
from Friends of the Earth. Many activities suitable for Key Stage 2 pupils too,
with minimal adaptation.

The Journey of a Fish
This activity provides a worksheet giving the 'story' of a mackerel being caught
and processed. It also provides a map, so pupils can use the map scale and story
to calculate how far the mackerel travels before it reaches your plate. An online,
interactive' mackerel (at http://www.yourclimateyourlife.org.uk/9_buying_thought.html
also introduces some of the more complex issues of how our food impacts on the environment,
but in a simple way - such as how the workers travel to work, the packaging of the
products, disposal of the packaging and waste, etc. This activity could be used
in conjunction with www.mapcrow.info, which is an online distance calculator, if
pupils did not want to use map scales (this site could also be used for calculating
distances of the contents of the school canteen, tuck shop or products from home).
