GREEN FLAG RESOURCES
The resources have been developed for use by a range of ages and abilities of pupils
but please feel free to adapt them to suit your needs. Each lesson or 'set' of resources
includes a 'Teachers' food for thought' section. This provides some background information
for you, as a teacher starting to deliver activities with a global dimension.
The 'Teachers' food for thought' should provide you with a context to place the
work in, ideas on how to organise the activities, places to do further background
reading about issues you are unfamiliar with and ideas to share and discuss with
your pupils to ensure they get the most out of the activities.
We would welcome your feedback on any of the resources.

Global food V Carbon food
|
|
Resource Summary
|
This activity aims to enable pupils to examine and investigate the wider issues
of the energy use and environmental impact of our food production, not just food
miles but carbon output from field to fork. It focuses on a comparison between British
and New Zealand lamb but includes other food products too, leading to the pupils
taking part in a debate or discussion on issues of trade, farming practices and
carbon emissions. It also examines the forces at play in our shopping and purchasing
choices and examines elements of bias and propaganda in the media.
