The resources have been developed for use by a range of ages and abilities of pupils but please feel free to adapt them to suit your needs. Each lesson or 'set' of resources includes a 'Teachers' food for thought' section. This provides some background information for you, as a teacher starting to deliver activities with a global dimension.

The 'Teachers' food for thought' should provide you with a context to place the work in, ideas on how to organise the activities, places to do further background reading about issues you are unfamiliar with and ideas to share and discuss with your pupils to ensure they get the most out of the activities.

Name of the activity or resource	Australian Aboriginal art and School Grounds
Resource Summary	The first document provides teachers' food for thought, a lesson plan and 'how to' resources, to take pupils through investigations on the traditions and culture of Australian Aboriginal art. This leads them to the production of outdoor art works - the creation of a mural, mosaic or sun shade batik for the school grounds. The presentation provides inspiration and visual guidance on techniques.

Name of the activity or resource	Australian Aboriginal shelter building
Resource Summary	Resources, lesson plan and supporting information and presentation for pupils to develop their understanding of a traditional shelter building by the Australian Aborigines, the reasons behind material choices and design styles and opportunity to test their own shelter building skills in model or large scale.

Name of the activity or resource	Australia and UK useful plants
Resource Summary	Resources, short lesson series plan and information to enable pupils to fully investigate the concept of indigenous 'useful plants' both in the UK and in Australia. Opportunity to combine learning outside the classroom in the UK with wider understanding of the uses of plants for wildlife, medicines, cultural beliefs, timber, construction and food and how this knowledge may be 'lost' and the need to protect our plants and habitats.

Name of the activity or resource	South Africa - resource use in the school grounds
Resource Summary	Lesson plan and resources to enable pupils to see how resources are re-used in South African schools also working on the Eco-Schools programme. Chance to recognise the similarities and differences between Eco-Schools projects around the world and get a different perspective on why we need to conserve and re-use our resources efficiently. Chance to 're-use' their own resources for schools grounds projects.

Name of the activity or resource	South Africa and Shelter Building
Resource Summary	Lesson plan and resources enabling pupils to view different kinds of South African shelters and homes and understand the reasons for the differences in types, styles and construction. Opportunity to develop their own small scale shelter building and put principles into practice, based on different South African scenarios.
Suitable for	Key Stage 1 Key Stage 2 Key Stage 3 - if extend into the issues around housing and shelter in South Africa looking at how the history of apartheid affected access to certain areas, lifestyles and consequently the types of housing that developed in townships, slum areas, etc.

Name of the activity or resource	South Africa and Growing Crops
Resource Summary	Guidelines and suggestions on how to use resources created by 'Send a Cow' and other organisations on African style 'keyhole' gardening and 'sack gardening' can be applied to your own grounds. Extends pupil investigation into the issues around growing food in certain South African communities for different purposes such as combating climate change, ensuring sustainability and fertility and specifically supporting children infected and affected by HIV and AIDS.
